16. Why we need to set targets and track diversity initiatives

by | Jun 30, 2019

When it comes to gender diversity initiatives, the idea of setting goals or targets makes everybody really uncomfortable. We get images in our heads of people getting put into positions that they aren’t ready for, or of people getting jobs just because they are a woman. In reality, this just isn’t the case. Think about it this way, having a goal gives you the opportunity to create a plan. It helps you to get curious and figure out how to achieve the goal. When you don’t have a plan, you won’t get results. This is one reason why progress towards gender equality in the workplace to date has been slow. Companies have been taking action, but many haven’t been tracking the results of their initiatives. In this episode I explain why setting goals is crucial to the success of any gender diversity initiative and how to get the conversation started in your organization.
